Also, I suppose it would NOT be possible to have a (sub)bundle within another bundle (only one layer of categorization)? An other suggestion would probably be a "hidden" bundle, that contains files only viewable in the editor, but this would kinda run contrary to the idea of that system.Sounds like a whole lot of effort, so I go with: Just needs a way to delete files from the collection as whole. |
|
>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 7feb2015(sa)00:53 No.17681 SWF P8R5I made .org to be separate from .com and .net, the idea was that if I wanted to I could put it on a different server. Since I'd like people to be able to make collections with all flashes and not just the ones they upload it kinda have to be this way. But I could add some link here on .org that tries to search for the flash on .com to see if it has been archived. If you're having problems determining the flash index number of a swf file you have on your computer you can try to search for the number of bytes of that file. For example if you search for ">7 966 524" you will only find flashes that has been seen with a file size of exactly 7966524 bytes. That should narrow things down. Concerning deletion... yeah it's not possible yet. Haha, pretty basic stuff I know but it's a planned feature. Kinda rushed to get this collection thing out there even before everything was implemented. I plan to have checkboxes for each flash, if checked the flash is "hidden" (counts as deleted). That way you could create a "hidden bundle" by just making a regular bundle and then set every flash in it as hidden. The bundle will count as empty and won't show up outside edit mode. I'll probably make it so that if you name a bundle "Hidden" the flashes added into it will default as being hidden. Creation of new bundles from edit mode is also one of those planned features, by the way. As is swapping places of the bundles. I'm not planning to support bundles within bundles at the moment as it would require a bit of re-coding. But it's not impossible to arrange something like that in the future, maybe, if more people need it. Another feature I'd like to get in is bundle links at the top of a big multi-page, multi-bundle collection which will give you the ability to browse only a certain bundle in the collection if you want to. A simple little filter for searching in the existing collections and their bundles might be useful to add later as well, if the number of collections grow plenty. |

I always hesitated to make a good private collection, because of the archive, so I missed a lot of good flashes. But on the other side the .com engine isn't so reliable anymore when it comes to classics, since at some point it grew out exponentially and people started to post crap version of swf just to bypass the post limit.tl;dr - a great way to have your own Flash Collection, always accessible. Just haven't bothered yet since it's linked to from all the pages on com/net right now due to the announcement. The .net front page will remain as it is for the time being (only showing recommendations). In order to prevent the menu from looking too cluttered only "C" is printed out instead of the whole "COLLECTIONS" word. It would bring the text too close to the main logo otherwise. Two • were added to make it more eye-catching plus that I thought it looked pretty ugly to only have "C" as the link. Since most people doesn't use any kind of description this will cause there to be a lot less empty space on the page. It should give a better overview at the cost of some people maybe missing a flash if they aren't looking thoroughly while scrolling. The number of flashes per page has been increased from 100 to infinity as well, it makes it more pleasant to browse through a collection when subsections aren't cut off in the middle. Since some collections have hundreds of flashes I might try to improve thumbnail load times down the road by bundling them together into a single image and using CSS to split them. Right now though each thumbnail is downloaded separately as normal. |

Anyway, I took this opportunity to finally change the layout of the collections again. It doesn't look as unorthodox now. The list of collections have also been changed a little bit, layout-wise the fields now have fixed width. Also, henceforth 3 instead of 4 flashes is needed in order to appear on the list. This makes a whopping 43 new rows appear on the list and although I still think three items doesn't make much of a collection most of them did seem to be genuine attempts. For the record: Right now there are 73 collections with just 2 flashes in them and 664 with a single flash, many of which are simple tests but oddly enough there's plenty of those that appear to have a legit theme or thought behind them. 4 collections have 0 flashes, meaning the owners hid/removed all flashes from them. Honestly it's pretty obtuse to block a key part of someone's site without even listening to what he has to say for himself. Ironically it hasn't actually hurt the site's income either since people need to turn off their adblockers now, which should be the opposite of what the people running easylist would want you to do. I really can't fix issues caused by easylist myself without replacing the whole subdomain and while this doesn't hurt the site's income I'd much rather see more people with adblock than less without adblock. In the long run it's not good for the site's exposure, especially in these days of dwindling flash support. If easylist don't answer me soon I'll be making an announcement asking people to help out nagging them to whitelist eye.swfchan.com again, I'm coming to my wits end. |

If two flashes have the same order number (and are in the same bundle inside the collection) the order they appear in is a bit uncertain, though it will always stay the same once saved. So now you can use the same order numbers and only move around the flashes that really needs it. I know that you've got other stuff planned and probably added this in as a simple solution but please don't forget about expanding on it. For one it won't be as helpful when a collection is updated frequently and one doesn't check the collection very often. |

Man, I hate the fact that I wasn't able to think about typing in ⁄ f ⁄, just created it on a whim in mere seconds. It's supposed to be a full collection, not something that updates regularely (like f.e. z0r). Everything is so messy and inconsistent. I only update it very randomly and sporadically, when I come across something that isn't in it already, though I seem to abuse it more to just be my personal collection due to lack of interest. But, thanks, I guess. Btw, I'm always open to suggestions, but best keep that in another thread. Also, Ants, still waiting for the ability to move bundles. (*´_ゝ`) Cool feature though, with such a simple way of spotting new flashes. Now everyone will notice when I forgot to add that one very basic classic to the collection! :P |

>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 26apr2018(th)22:02 No.59163 SWF P58R47>>59132 Special characters aren't allowed in the collection names so ⁄ f ⁄ wouldn't have worked. I made it pretty restrictive to simplify some stuff in the background and to guarantee non-escaped URLs, it's not even allowed to end with a number before the random "--###" that gets appended.Anyway sorry about the delay, you can now move bundles up and down! |

>> | æ 27apr2018(fr)13:59 No.59183 B P59R48>>59163 Sweet, thanks! Also, that's a relief, so it didn't even matter what I typed in. It's not a problem, better to keep it simple, just thought that maybe ⁄ instead of / would have worked. I hate it how on /f/ the parser filters out all special characters too these days. No more zalgo, but still... |

Sometimes people report errors that are just user errors. However this time the issue was real; one unique to you simply because your collection is so large! It exceeded the page buffer limit of the server. The fix was simple, I've made it 10 times larger. Looking forward to fix the problem for you again when your collection is 10 times larger! ;) Also I'm more quiet now but I'm around, don't worry. |

Guess changing the layout to feature all flashes on a single page brought some unexpected turns. I was wondering why there were some edits after I couldn't do so anymore, I thought it might be something on my side. Anyway, I just checked and I can confirm it's fixed, cheers!Hmm, I wonder if my collection will ever become 10x that big :x Recently went through my old files I had on a harddisk and I was astounded how many I already collected over the years, just from memory. Not a lot to add anymore, but maybe I'll still pick up a few here and there. And hey, it's not like there wouldn't be any new flashes anymore. One can still dream of fresh new OC :P |

>> | Anonymous 29may2020(fr)19:59 No.77327 B P66R54Little suggestion here: It happens from time to time that I come across the fact that I already added a specific version of a flash, but I cannot easily find it in my collection. It is mostly due to the fact that I renamed them to something original, maybe a name that wasn't even posted before and isn't in the archive. So when I try to add it again, it obviously doesn't work. One way to rectify that would be that if you add it a second time, it overwrites the current entry. I would much more prefer it though, if maybe the link that says "This flash is already featured in the following collection: X" links directly to the cell within the collection, or maybe contains the name in the url. |

|
>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 25aug2020(tu)14:30 No.78923 SWF P70R58>>78902 I had planned to let collections have some kind of discuss form on the collection page itself, where the first post auto-created a /disc/ thread for that collection (appending posts if there already was a thread). That way /disc/ wouldn't be spammed with empty threads as soon as a collection was created and the threads would be discoverable by those not explicitly checking the collections. Having them visible for regular board visitors would increase the chance of reply in a timely fashion.I had several things planned with the collections, for example the ability to scan your computer's local swf folder with a Java program and then create/sync an identical collection online. Or having the ability to copy abandoned collections so that work on it may continue. But Adobe's announcement on 25jul2017 about ending flash support kinda zapped away a lot of motivation from me. So until further notice collection owners must create their own /disc/ thread if they want feedback, and link it from inside the collection. An example of this being done can be seen in http://swfchan.net/collections/Minus_8k--736/. It's not out of the realm of possibility that I some day implement what I mentioned above with the auto-threads, however with the diminishing user base I have to wonder how much purpose it will serve. |

>> | Joshex 28aug2020(fr)16:49 No.78987 Q P76R64Noticed .org has been down for a long time, now that you said it's on a different server I can understand cutting it to save costs. Regarding the collections system, I'm not sure if it's possible but I'd like to do some research for future reference to see if the javascript updater can be replaced by an swf. It's most likely possible with a combination of the AS2/3 file reading abilities coupled with net messages to the upload server. would be awesome to run it entirely in flash. Other than that the idea seems great, one other possibility for the future (which I floated to Tom Fulp at newgrounds and he seemed to say the banks were all controlled by anti-hentai people so it was impossible) that I'll now float to you is eventually adding a system for the monetization of flash "collections" by the creation of a SWFChan coin/points system: where users can buy points with [insert payment service] and then donate them to collection owners. The Idea is that the money goes to the site not directly to users so it's not directly goign from [insert payment service here] to hentai, the site could take a cut (to help fund SWFChan) and then payout the remainder to the users who claim points (pay to thier paypal or such) by that amount of points worth of currency. The idea is to replace the increasingly toxic hentai-hating crowdsourcing companies like patreon. especially because they'll probably try to kill off flash projects. Replacing them with a system right on the actual flash host site. Not sure if this is asking you to bite off more than you can chew. |
|
>> | Anonymous 28aug2020(fr)17:50 No.78989 R P77R65>>78987 That's way too excessive and ambitious for a super niche site like this. Collection owners are just dudes adding other people's flashes to a list, not the flash artists themselves (and even the flashes themselves are almost never uploaded by their own artists) so this is obviously no replacement for something like Patreon. A suggestion I can propose concerning donations is to not rely exclusively on bitcoins. Swfchan was booted from Patreon, but there's other options like SubscribeStar and Minds. |

>> | Anonymous 30aug2020(su)16:29 No.79093 B P78R66>>78987 >>78989 SWFAnts stance on anonimity would disqualify nearly all existing payment service options other than crypto-coins. He's been successfully cloaking his way through life up to this point, and also respects users privacy enough not to just require them to use said services. Would be hard to satisfy those factors, even if people would be cool with the idea of companies documenting them supporting flash pornography. |

I'd say chances are hight that if Ants made a patreon for just tools.swfchan.com as in the developement of some application, he wouldn't get banned again, as that happened pretty arbitratrily. We wouldn't know until we tried but even then I think he's pretty fed up with them and also doesn't want to support such a bad site. They started good, but today I wouldn't want to give them any money. This is getting pretty off-topic now though, so please use the designated /disc/ threads. |

>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 29sep2020(tu)21:06 No.80149 SWF P82R70>>80050 Threads on /disc/ never timeout. If someone figures out your password he can delete everything in your collection and it's erased from the database as well, however I do keep long term snapshots of the database so I would probably be able to restore the collection if it was really good. It would be a pain in the neck to do though so it would have to be REALLY good. But surely you haven't used a weak password, right? Every single backup isn't kept forever and there's of course some delay between snapshots, so if you add a bunch of text to the collection and you get hacked tomorrow there's a chance your latest additions are lost. Keep in mind that you can always take manual backups of how your collection looks by using web.archive.org or archive.today. |
