It's possible that the new swfchan server denies a CloudFlare request if it requests the same resource too many times, I've noticed myself that sometimes a page takes a long time to load but if I add a dummy string at the end of the URL (for example "?bla") it loads immediately. I've looked around but haven't found any setting to fix this so far. I'm considering trying to run the site without using CloudFlare for a day and see if the server can still handle the load. I don't think it's a good idea to drop CF on swfchan.org since there are big swf files here (should be faster to load them from their cache) however on swfchan.com and swfchan.net there are mostly just html pages and they aren't even cached on CloudFlare so if the new server can handle the amount of connections there is little reason to use CF over there. Basically the only thing cached on .com is the global JavaScript file. images1.swfchan.com is still going through CloudFlare so all thumbnails are still pulled from their cache. |

>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 25mar2014(tu)00:05 No.10965 SWF P16Okay, the system will now rebuild pages upon 404 if it thinks that the page should be there. A note is displayed below the 404 message saying that a rebuild signal has been sent. It doesn't work for archived threads yet but I'll add that a little later. The reason for all those missing listing pages by the way was that they were empty. Seems like the system failed to add flashes to the site a lot recently (970 times in a row, what the hell?) which reserved a lot of IDs that never actually got used, in turn making a whole bunch of blank listing pages. Problem was that these blank listing pages never got written to disk so that's why there were so many 404 messages going on. Don't know why there were so many fails in a row, that never happened before on such scale. Probably some resource was locked by another process or something, if it happens again I will look into it deeper. |

>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 29mar2014(sa)04:37 No.12022 SWF P22Noticed that it happened again: a big chunk of flash IDs were not used. This time a flash failed to be added 999 times in a row and then suddenly got added on the 1000:th try. What the hell? Upon snooping around it seems like this is database related and nothing is actually wrong in my code. The database appears to be skipping some IDs for some reason. This sucks because now no flash was assigned the ID 150000... I can see that this ID skipping has happened in the database here on .org as well, that's why the numbers of the posts here has gotten so high all of a sudden. It matters less here though since there will be no blank listing pages because of it. Still is bad of course and I'll be sure not to use automatic number increases for anything except look up columns in future database tables that I design. I'll implement something that detects skipped IDs on .com and then delays how long it takes until the next try to insert a new flash, that should reduce the number of unused IDs in the future and hopefully prevent further blank listing pages. As for the post numbers here on .org I don't think it's worth the work to prevent skipped IDs, especially since it would delay new posts from being made. |

Trying out not using CloudFlare for images1.swfchan.com as well since I've noticed that sometimes thumbnails aren't loading for a long while, which is annoying. >> | kuro 12apr2014(sa)15:59 No.12322 L P32R25Content 404's Alrighty, a little more detail for you: As far as I can tell, it seemed to work fine a few days ago (for the first time since Spring 2013), which is why I was visiting swfchan quite often in the last couple of days (now again, I'm a little disappointed about the 404 issue not having been fixed after all). By "everything" 404'ing, I am referring to the actual pages that contain the .swf files that I want to view after entering the captcha(s), namely flash.asp. I do *not* run into any sort of default nginx 404 page, but rather 404.swf on about 95% of possible flash files. Flashes that don't require authentication (swfchan.org/$threadID/$filename.swf or swfchan.org/$threadID/$filename.html) work just fine. From what I've tested, it seems that swfchan.com's files2 isn't working the way it should. Unfortunately, a big deal of the files linked on swfchan.net/swfchan.com is located on files2. Working (files1): http://eye.swfchan.com/flash.asp?id=63571&n=Matri ce+Angelique.swf http://eye.swfchan.com/flash.asp?id=127320&n=godd ammitrobin.swf Not working (files2): http://eye.swfchan.com/flash.asp?id=49&n=2-9.swf http://eye.swfchan.com/flash.asp?id=4629&n=toon_1 188938919493_toon_1181935241222_djs080906.swf http://eye.swfchan.com/flash.asp?id=16470&n=tamam i01.swf http://eye.swfchan.com/flash.asp?id=497&n=nexdemo .swf Experimenting with the three options on the GET page resulted in no change in behavior. I have not tested files3 (since I couldn't find any files that were located there). TL;DR: files2 on swfchan.com/swfchan.net is broken, it never delivers content, but only 404.swf. |

>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 12apr2014(sa)16:39 No.12324 SWF P33R26>>12322 Thanks for the details mate.files3 is only used for the currently most popular flashes and the newest flashes, here are two flashes that are currently using files3: http://eye.swfchan.com/flash.asp?id=150990&n=star barians_loop.swf http://eye.swfchan.com/flash.asp?id=151049&n=2376 54.swf Could you test to see if they work, please? I kinda guessed that the problem was files2, it's a server that I rent and runs on code that I haven't written myself. It actually delivers all content to me without a problem but from what you are telling me it seems that it fails for certain IPs. Do you know if you have recently gotten a new IP from your ISP? I've tested it from a bunch of different IPs and assumed that it worked alright since nobody had reported issues with it until now. If you uncheck "embed" and press the GET FILE button you will get an alternative link in the gray text below the main link that allows you to download the file from files1 btw, you can use this until I've sorted things out. Half-wondering if I should turn off files2 for the time being because the admin of it was having some problems these last two months. For example, I can't upload new files there until he fixes something. But keeping files2 on still saves quite a bit of traffic. Might not be an issue on the new server though, hm. |
|
>> | kuro 12apr2014(sa)17:54 No.12328 L P34R27>>12324 I tried both of the links you gave me. Both of these flashes won't 404 on me, but (this might be due to bad ActionScript programming) will never fire an event once the flash has finished loading. For the first flash, this is not a problem, since Adobe Flash grants a "Play" action in the context menu (right click on the flash content). For the second flash, this is a problem, since the flash author removed the default actions from the context menu, so even if the file is finished loading, the event won't fire and the user can't manually start it. Thus, the second flash file is not viewable for me and I'm stuck in the "Loading" screen. The alternative link that leads to files1 is an acceptable workaround for the meantime, thanks a lot. I might write a little userscript that automatically embeds the flash from files1, regardless of the "embed" option being checked or not. My current IP is 79.240.xxx.xxx. You can figure out the rest by looking into /var/log/nginx/access.log, around 17:55:00 UTC+2. I've moved to a new place in Spring of 2013, which is pretty much since when I'm having these issues (so this might really be an issue for a specific subnet). Since I live here, I've never gotten swfchan to work properly, which is why I've degrated to using swfchan.org only (and giving up swfchan.net and swfchan.com). And just a little remark: Although PHP is horribly slow, ASP.NET can't keep up with it (plus, it's obsolete and proprietary). You might gain an incredible speedup by switching your server-side scripting to PHP (or at least ditching ASP.NET for something rather scalable). In case you want to keep files2, you might want to re-write or deeply inspect the code it runs. Otherwise, you might want to give directing all the traffic to files1 and files3 a shot. |

Should have picked other examples. I've always disliked when authors remove options from flash's right-click menu, like they think things look cleaner or something (for the record I also dislike when the flash don't scale to fullscreen too, increasinly annoying as our desktops get higher and higher resolutions). 237654.swf that I linked to can be started using framestep in the seekbar. Been thinking a while now about showing some kind of message that explains this if the flash lingers on the same frame(s) for a few seconds even after the swf file loads 100%. >might write a little userscript that automatically embeds the flash from files1, regardless of the "embed" option being checked or not If not you can always middle-click the download link to open the swf file in a new tab. >> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 13apr2014(su)22:52 No.12365 SWF P41Just noticed that NoScript is blocking certain posts if the text body contains certain stuff. What happens is that they think the post might be some kind of XSS attempt (cross-site scripting) and they change the request to a "more secure" GET request instead, which of course is refused by the swfchan server since it's supposed to be a POST request (so that images/swf files can be submitted). I don't need this shit, sigh. Apparently several posts have been blocked. Seriously, plugins that causes troubles like this are a bitch. There is nothing wrong with what I'm doing on my end code-wise and many posts can be posted fine, but others are blocked because there's a small *chance* that something fishy is going on. Only by pure luck I discovered this too, since I happened to have NoScript installed because I experimented with it some months ago. Could have gone a long time without knowing anything was wrong. Now I have to find a workaround to this shit because NoScript decided to be super strict about how the web is supposed to work. Sure, security is good but all these limitations are killing me. I remember the good old days when you could create moving popup windows that didn't have a close button and when you could open the visitor's CD ROM tray just by visiting a web page. |

Now posting goes "swfchan.org:80 --> swfchan.org:40" instead of "swfchan.org:80 --> eye.swfchan.org:40". No longer getting any XSS warnings when testing. Let's just hope that NoScript doesn't start complaining about the port numbers some day. This meant I had to turn off CloudFlare for swfchan.org. Images and other files are now gotten via get.swfchan.org instead (if you have JavaScript turned on that is) since that subdomain is now passed through CloudFlare. A little funny since it used to be the other way around, the get subdomain was previously used to receive big files on the /res/ board without going through CF. At least something good came out of this, the pages should load faster now on .org since it isn't passed through CloudFlare anymore (pages aren't cached like files on CF so page requests are actually slowed down when using CF). |

>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 16apr2014(we)05:46 No.12428 SWF P47R34>>12426 Thanks for letting me know! I'll look into it. Just to be clear: Do you mean enter a captcha on eye.swfchan.com or here on .org? I'm guessing the first, just want to make sure. If somebody else have noticed this too I'd appreciate it if you let me know, though I guess this is something that not everybody would admit. |

>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 17apr2014(th)02:49 No.12454 SWF P48>>12426 After a thorough investigation it turns out that you're right; sometimes a couple of IPs doesn't have to enter a captcha for a long time. This wasn't an easy bug to spot, at most 1 IP in 3500 had this. I would never have spotted this if you hadn't said anything, thank you again!Instead of hunting for the cause of this and fixing it I think I will remake how the actual captcha process takes place. It's actually pretty complex right now, I wrote it like this because the old server was being overloaded. Everything is dealt with in memory, the HDD read/writes are kept to a minimum. But with the new much more powerful server, and the new modern database, I no longer think this is needed. It will take some time making a new captcha handler, gotta make everything fit together (stats collection for example) and I can't start tonight unfortunately. But I've been meaning to do it anyway since the current setup doesn't work too good with proxies and I've noticed some people have been complaining on 4chan that they can't get their captcha to be accepted (probably because their IP is changing between seeing the captcha and submitting the solution). So it's for the best. The change will probably be completely invisible to the user, everything should look the same. |

>> | Horsie 17apr2014(th)12:34 No.12455 P P49R35Is there a way to get rid of the pop-ups and captchas? I mean, how many money they give you per user and day? I guess it must be mere cents, so I would be willing to pay a reasonable amount to get a premium membership that lets me browse swfchan without all this annoying crap. |

>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 17apr2014(th)22:22 No.12464 SWF P50R36>>12455 There's not enough interest for that to make it worth the trouble of setting up some kind of payment thing, if it is becomes too much of a pain with the pops I recommend an adblocking plugin for your browser. Sorry. The captchas on the other hand doesn't earn the site anything, they just prevent leeching of the entire flash archive - something that would steal a lot of bandwidth from regular visitors. |

>> | A nonymous 22apr2014(tu)02:11 No.12555 Q P51R37I haven't really gotten into it a lot, but since the new server went live, I think some of the flashes on .org I've seen don't work right, or different And I could swear they worked before. Sometimes a flash preloader requires the flash to load completely to give a play button, or requires you to watch an ad of some kind. And this doesn't work anymore. The play option (not in context menu course... it works there) does not come up. If it's an old ad, which doesn't play anymore of some reason, it normally goes right to the play option, and , yes, I checked if the flashes already did load a 100%. Just sayin, don't know if it's anything on my side. And yeah, these goddamn NoScript Users, I don't even use Ad-block most of the time. |

>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 23apr2014(we)07:37 No.12620 SWF P53R39>>12555 You know, I've noticed that too. Take the Zone Bioshock flash up in /fap/ for example, it's been up before and I seem to remember it loaded fine then. Now on the other hand you have to right-click and press play to get it to play. This is true even if you access the file directly (click the .swf part of the file name), and then it's not even emebedded. But if you download the file and play it offline (in browser or in the official Flash Player program) the preloader works just fine. Almost as if Adobe has changed something with their flash plugin to make something not work as it should online. The flash has local sandbox restrictions (doesn't have Network Access enabled), could it be that it's now not even allowed to read its own amount of loaded bytes when online? >>12618 Okay thanks for telling me, I will start working on that new captcha handler I talked about earlier right away. |

>> | !///SWFAnts #ADMIN# 23apr2014(we)23:20 No.12631 SWF P54All done, the new flash.asp is up and running! Should be much more stable and hopefully show no more blank pages for anyone? Additionally visitors that change their IP number a lot will no longer have any problem watching flashes, which should be good news for all you proxy users out there. If you find anything not working as it should please tell me about it BUT let's take the discussion in the Bug Thread over at http://swfchan.org/17/, I think it's about time to move on from this thread now since I doubt anything at this point will be actually related to the new server (it will just be a normal bug that could have happened on the old server as well). |
