There was an issue with the server earlier today. The program that stores flash and captcha info couldn't bind to the normal port for some reason, meaning that flash.asp couldn't get any info so it displayed the standard error message for when something goes wrong (it assumes that either backup is going on or the script just timed out).

The issue has been fixed nine hours ago, but it's very strange that the port wouldn't bind since I made sure in many different ways that it wasn't already in use, and it wasn't a permission thing either. A reboot probably would have fixed the problem but I changed to a different port and that made it work again (no any port worked though, took a little while to figure out one that was okay).

Thanks a bunch for reporting the problem! Sometimes, like today, I will find the problem myself but often it can take a very long time before I fix it unless someone lets me know about it earlier.

That thing you mentioned about the timeouts sound bad though, maybe there is something that can be done. Can you describe when you get the timeouts? What do they say exactly? Or do you perhaps mean "connection reset" messages on eye.swfchan.com?

Oh, I've just been having problems with my modem (ping goes through the roof, speeds go down the crapper), so I thought maybe that was causing the problem. Though, now that I think of it, I'm not even sure a client-side timeout would trigger a server-side error in this manner... maybe it could be done with Javascript... or... something...
In any case, swfchan seems to be working fine for me right now. Thanks for actually caring! A lot of people running paid services don't even seem to care, so it means a lot :D
